Welcome to Year 1!
Class Teacher - Miss S. Hawkins
Teaching Assistant - Mrs R. Cavanagh
In September some of us had only just turned five so it was very important that we had a lot of practical and play based activities to help us learn. Now we have grown up so much! We are shocking Miss Hawkins every day with the great progress we are making.
In our English work it is really important that we learn to write sentences that make sense, with full stops at the end and capital letters at the beginning. We use our topics to help us make writing more fun and interesting.
We have got really good at mental maths through Number Masters lessons. Daily practise of basic skills means we know numbers really well and are getting good at manipulating them. We are learning to add, take away, multiply and divide as well as use language for measuring, shapes and time.
Our first topic was ‘What shall I wear today?’ We used Science and Geography to answer this question and learnt that in different parts of the world we have to wear different clothes. We made weather forecasts and packed suitcases for holidays in Brazil and the Arctic.
This term we are wondering ‘Houses are better now than in the past – true or false?’ We are looking at types of houses and how they have changed over time. We are learning about History, making timelines of personal and local history.
In our final term we will be thinking about Dartford. We are going to use our Science and Design Technology knowledge and skills to study Dartford Park and think about why people should visit. This was an exciting topic last year and we are looking forward to a spectacular climax again this year.
Keep an eye on our page to see pictures of our learning and you can come into class on Friday mornings to see some of our fabulous work.
